random weekend pics

We didn't really do anything that exciting over the weekend, but I wanted to post some cute pictures of the kids so you'll have to bear with me. (Or skip it all together, I guess! :) )

We went to the park right by our house with Ellie Friday night while we were watching her. She and Max had a fun time running after each other and up and down the toys. (That's really all the little kids can do at our park. We just got new park toys a couple of months ago and it is basically four different kind of monkey bars, a completely vertical rock wall, and this bouncy thing they are sitting on. After being so excited to get new toys I was pretty angry. Where's our slide!?!)
I got some really pretty pictures of Ellie but, of course, couldn't get Max to lift his head up or look at me. What a stinker! And what a beauty Ellie is!

Max is looking pretty stylin' in this old pair of sunglasses he likes to grab out of the back closet.

Emily had her first cake on Saturday at our annual neighborhood "Eat in the Street". She's probably a little young, but she was so fussy unless I was putting cake in her mouth! ;) We had quite a bit leftover, so she got some more after dinner on Sunday and I just let her have at it and make a big old mess. (I'm normally a bit of a neat freak when it comes to food.)

Emily took her first bath in the big tub tonight! She loved splashing in the water and being able to play with toys and Max loved having someone to play with for bath time. Unlike Max, she has loved bath time since she was born. (Max screamed for the first three or so weeks the entire time he was being washed, dried, lotioned, and dressed. Jeff always said he didn't mind because at least we knew why he was crying. So much of the time we had no idea.)

Sitting Pretty!

The day after I blogged about Emily turning six months and how I was hoping she would soon start to sit on her own, she got her flat bum. (That's what my sister, Shannan, said when Max started sitting all of a sudden one day. She said that it's like they one day get a flat bum and can sit by themselves. For some reason that just stuck in my head. :) ) It's been so fun watching her practice sitting on her own. She likes to be able to scope out the view and play with her toys, but DOES NOT like it when she falls over, even if she just kind of rolls to the side. It's so exciting watching her grow up. I love babies at this age when they really start to become independent, but I'm also worried that she's going to be one before I know it!

Applique for Emily

I have been picking up some bottoms for Emily next summer on the clearance racks but haven't had any luck finding tops to go with them, so I bought a package of onesies and appliquéd her some tops. I think I like the little bird the best. I just used some of my favorite fabric and then realized it would go really cute with the little corduroy skirt that I picked up for $2 or $3 at the Children's Place a few weeks before she was born. All five outfits together cost just under $25. What a steal!!

Tagged again!

WRITE 6 WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOUR LIFE.

pellucid
iterative
fretful
providential
replete
farcical

I tag Shannan and Meghan

The big words are probably only funny to me and Jeff. I know, we're nerds. We did have a lot of fun looking up words in the thesaurus, though, so you'll just have to bear with it. Here's what words I started out with: simple, repetitive, impatient, happy, full, funny.

Sweet Moments

Tonight I had one of those sweet moments that make motherhood so precious and worth all of the hard and frustrating times. I had enrichment tonight, so I wasn't home when the kids went to bed. When I got home Max was still up and making quite a bit of noise, so after a while I went in to check on him and make sure he wasn't messy or thirsty or something. After I got his dinosaur blankie from downstairs (I was informed the minute I opened his door that, "Blankie's downstairs!") and checked his diaper I snuggled with him on his bed and we sang "Hush, little baby" together while we held hands. I have very happy memories of my dad singing me this song when I was a little girl and I often sing it to my children at bedtime. This is the first time Max has sung along with me and I loved hearing him sing most of the words. After we sang it through a couple of times we whispered, "I love you so much" to each other several times. I wish that I could hold on to moments like this forever.

A much needed vacation

After a summer of doing nothing but sitting home and Jeff working a lot of overtime (including the 4th and 24th of July) we finally got to go have some family fun this week! This past Thursday through Saturday we went camping with Jeff's family up Left Hand Fork in Blacksmith Fork Canyon (Cache County). Our campsite was really pretty with a stream right next to it. The kids all had a great time splashing and floating around in the water while the adults sat on camp chairs, soaking their feet and chatting. We got to go four wheeling, hang around the campfire, fish (for Bill,Mike and Marianne), and just enjoy spending time with family.

Jeff and I were a little nervous about how the kids would do sleeping in a tent together but they both did great. Max slept like a brick in his sleeping bag. He would just bury himself all the way down in so you couldn't even see his head most of the time. Emily would have slept straight through both nights except her paranoid mom had to check and make sure she was breathing when she hadn't made a peep all night and ended up waking her up at about 5:30 am the first night. Now hopefully they can sleep that good next month when we go camping with my family!

We had to play the game, "What will Curtis eat with CheeseWiz" since Matt and Sherry missed it a couple of years ago. It seems like Curtis is always providing some kind of entertainment when he's around. Some of the things he ate: chocolate cake, lettuce, pineapple, grapes, raisins, pink salad, tomato, and a cookie. Jeff thinks Max takes after his Uncle Curtis when it comes to his eating.

My only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. We had a great time and it was a much needed break for our family!

6 Months Old

Our little Emmy turned six months old this week! It sure seems like she is growing up fast. I have to admit there is a part of me that can't wait for her to start walking and talking and feeding herself. I keep reminding myself to enjoy the baby phase because it is going to be gone before I know it. She is such a sweet little girl, every time I look at her I just want to squeeze her and give her kisses all over her cute little face. She has the biggest smile I have ever seen. She looks like she is trying to eat you because she opens her mouth up so wide. I've been trying to get a picture of it, but haven't had much luck so this will have to do. She rolls all over the place and loves to coo and squeal. I'm hoping that she'll learn to sit on her own soon so that we can move away from carrying the car seat in the store and can start giving her baths in the big tub. She's already eating solids like a pro and I am down to only nursing four times a day. I get comments all the time about how much she looks like Jeff. We already thought we had a little mini Jeff when we had Max, so it is amazing to me that she looks even more like him than Max does. We have concluded that Jeff has super dominant genes so my kids will probably all look like they are Jeff's little mini-me. It's amazing to me how much I love these little kids of mine! It's so hard to imagine after your first that you can love another person as much as you love them and then here comes the next kid and your capacity for love just keeps growing by leaps and bounds. We feel so blessed to have this little sweetie in our family!!

For those who care: She was 15 lbs. 4 oz. (40%) and 26 in. long (60%) at her checkup. Of course her head was in the 75th percentile. I think it's safe to say we are going to have large headed children! :)
